Can i ask a judge for child support?

hello i filed for child support through ca dcss and i was wondering if i could also include that in my divorce paperwork to be able to establish an emergency support??? He was served by dcss on may 16th but because he wasnt personally served he has 45 days to respond making that the end of this month but dcss told me it could be december before i see anything and i could really use the help now. So am i able to basically go around them or do i just have to wait it out?
