Can simple mobile work on a comet android?

I bought a comet because i thought all t mobile phones worked on a simple mobile plan but it keeps telling me that the network is unavalable nd also it says emergency calls only.. i checked that the sim card is placed correctly also turned it off nd on but it still says no service.. does anybody know what might be going on? thanks
